Q. What is the recommended daily care routine for tatami mats?

A. For daily maintenance, simply wipe with a dry cloth.

About once a month, lightly wipe the surface with a damp cloth with the grain of the weave.
Dry it in a well-ventilated place, preferably on a sunny day.

 

Q. What if I spill liquid on the mat?

A. For Woven Japanese Paper and Authentic Rush mats,

spilled liquids such as pet urine, milk, soy sauce, or beer should be immediately wiped up with a dry cloth. Please note that the surface will become white if scrubbed strongly.

 

Q. Can I wash the mat with water?

A. No, it’s better not to use water when cleaning.

 

Q. Is it okay to put the mat on a heated floor?

A. Yes.

However, due to its low thermal conductivity, the product itself will not warm up when placed on a heated floor.

 

Q. Does the color change when exposed to direct sunlight?

A. Authentic Rush mats

It will change gradually from pale green to golden brown, as they are a natural grass-like material.

A. Woven Japanese Paper mats

They will not change significantly, though over time fading may occur from ultraviolet rays.

 

Q. Will the built-in magnets affect the human body at all?

A. Generally, there is no effect on the human body.

However, please note that if you are wearing an electronic medical device such as a cardiac pacemaker, there is a possibility that the device will be affected. Please keep magnets out of the reach of children. In the case that the magnets fall out, please dispose of them according to the specifications of your local government.

But the magnets are built into the layers of the mat, so please do not attempt to remove them for any reason.
